The Rancho Park Golf Course opened in 1949 and was designed by William Johnson and William P. Bell. It is an 18-hole, par 71 championship course playing at 6,630 yards, and has been host to over eighteen Los Angeles Opens, as well as numerous LPGA and Senior tour events between 1978 and 1994. The many years of tournaments, tours, and casual play eventually took its toll, and the city of Los Angeles decided it was time to give Rancho Park a facelift.
After a competitive bid process, Judge Netting was awarded the $1.3 million contract to overhaul the golf netting structure at Rancho Park. The project was completed start to finish in under 45 days – involving the complete demolition and rebuilding of the driving range, the installation of new drainage, new sub surfacing, new turf, extendable steel poles, a maintenance enclosure area, and more than 150,000 square feet of netting. Judge Netting not only installed the new equipment, but also provided the demolition and hauling services. According to Judge Netting President Dan Judge, “More than 80 poles and 30 truckloads of concrete were removed, and replaced with new 80 foot steel poles which are designed and engineered to extend to 120 feet tall in the future.” The company also worked closely with the LA Department of Public Works, The LA Department of Building & Safety, and the local neighborhood association to provide design, engineering, and permitting for the effort as well as the services that Judge Netting routinely offers in most installations.
