TL;DR
Judge Netting installed 600 feet of new 30-foot baseball safety netting along both diamonds at Charles Wilson Park in Torrance, CA, replacing aging chain-link fencing for the City of Torrance in a 10-day installation.
Overview
Charles Wilson Park in Torrance, CA is home to two active baseball diamonds used daily by local youth and adult leagues, previously protected only by aging chain-link fencing along both outfields. The City of Torrance brought in Judge Netting to remove the old chain link entirely and replace it with new baseball safety netting along both fields.
It’s part of the same wave of public-park upgrades that brought new golf trail netting to Brookside Golf Club elsewhere in Southern California.
Key Project Features
- New 30-foot-high netting barriers installed along both baseball diamonds
- 600 linear feet of new barrier in total
- 2″ mesh UV-treated polyester netting with black resin dye and bonding treatment
- Complete removal of the original chain-link backstop and outfield fencing
- Coordinated cutting and patching of existing concrete around footings
Project Challenges
Removing the old chain-link system meant cutting into existing concrete footings throughout the park, and matching the new concrete work to what was already in place proved to be a persistent challenge. Utility line locations were also uncertain in several areas, which required crews to hand-dig test holes rather than rely on mechanical equipment near the unknown lines, slowing the pace of installation but keeping the site safe.

Solution Provided
Judge Netting installed 600 feet of new 30-foot-high netting using 2″ mesh UV-treated polyester with a black resin dye and bonding treatment, supported on black steel poles anchored around both diamonds. The result replaces the park’s outdated chain link with a cleaner, more durable barrier system built to modern safety standards.
Why It Matters
Charles Wilson Park serves a steady flow of players, spectators, and families throughout the week, and this project sits alongside similar municipal ball-field work in our project portfolio, including the backstop rebuild at Pacific Grove – Municipal Ball Field Backstop. The new netting greatly improves protection against foul balls and home runs for everyone using the park’s shared spaces, including the nearby pool and sand volleyball courts, while giving the City a longer-lasting, lower-maintenance barrier than the chain link it replaced. If your park or facility needs a similar upgrade, schedule a free consultation and we’ll help you plan it out.
